Rising Leaders Program

Sponsored by Friday Staffing, the Rising Leaders Program is a free, one-year, intensive program designed to develop the next generation of community leaders and board members for Henderson County non-profits. Our pilot program will launch in September, 2011, and will be limited to 20 participants. We are recruiting young professionals who want to create a real and lasting change in Henderson County.

Program Outline

Program participants will commit to attending an Introductory Session on September 17, as well as four of five Informational Sessions that will be held at lunch-time throughout the year. These interactive sessions will cover the fundamentals of Board service and non-profit management; the essential knowledge and skills that Agency Directors have asked us to share with prospective Board members.   In order to successfully complete the program, participants will also be required to complete at least ten hours of community service within Henderson County between September 2011 and June 2012.   We will also hold several social events to introduce participants to Agency Directors and community leaders.

Introductory Session:  Saturday, September 17, 9:00am - 12:00 noon.

Session One:  Community Snapshot  Wednesday, October 12, 11:30am - 1:30pm.

Session Two:  The Life Cycle of a Non-Profit  Friday, November 4, 11:30am - 1:30pm.

Session Three:  Non-Profit Operations / Board Basics  Wednesday, December 7, 11:30am - 1:30pm.

Session Four:  Best Practices for Financial and Legal Leadership  Wednesday, February 8, 11:30am - 1:30pm.

Session Five:  Fundraising 101 and Advocacy  Wednesday, April 18, 11:30am - 1:30pm.

UWHC will make every effort to match program graduates with an appropriate long-term volunteer position at a local health and human services Non-Profit Agency.  However, completion of the Rising Leaders Program will not guarantee placement on a Non-Profit Board of Directors.  Decisions about new Board members are made entirely by the nominating committees of each individual agency’s Board of Directors.
