To Apply for UW Funding

How to Apply for United Way Funding

The United Way of Henderson County (UWHC) provides funding to 44 health and human service programs of 26 agencies serving the residents of Henderson County. In fiscal year 2009/10, program allocations range from $1,800 to $80,808.

The United Way of Henderson County announced on Friday, May 29, 2009, that the Board of Directors approved the annual investment in our community's health and human service programs by allocating $942,709 to specific Henderson County initiatives.

In addition to the programs receiving United Way funding through its allocation process, $181,003 will be distributed to community foundations; 2-1-1 of WNC, United Way's information and referral service; the Alliance for Human Services; other community programs; and other United Ways.  The total United Way investment to the community is $1,123,712.

Funds available for allocation are raised through an annual campaign, conducted primarily in the fall of each year. Allocation recommendations are made by panels of community volunteers through the Funds Distribution Steering Committee to the full UWHC Board of Directors each spring. United Way of Henderson County will suspend the allocations process for new programs for funding year 2010/11 as it works to revise/restructure the allocations process and realign the panels that review programs.

UWHC funds programs, not agencies, with several agencies receiving funding for multiple programs. When approved, funds are normally distributed in 12 equal payments on a July to June fiscal year basis. Program funding is outcome-based, and no program, regardless of whether it has received funding in the past, is guaranteed funding. Program funding is normally granted following an in-depth review by one of six community investment impact area panels made up of community volunteers.
