The Local Board for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program has been notified the national program’s funding has been determined. This federal funding is designated to supplement and expand the work of local social services agencies, both nonprofit and governmental, to assist individuals with emergency rent and mortgage payments. For 2018, Henderson County was awarded $19,725 through the Federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program set-aside funds.

Henderson County Youth Council (HCYC) is a student led and driven, county-wide youth organization supported by United Way of Henderson County. The council consists of representatives from all public high schools including the Innovative High School and Early College and is open to youth enrolled in home schools.

What does the Henderson County Youth Council do?

HCYC researches, surveys and initiates projects that benefit young adults in Henderson County. HCYC provides an opportunity for young people to learn about and put into action community wide planning as well as enhance leadership skills and responsibility.

Henderson County Youth Council goals:

  • Initiate community service projects and social events for young adults in Henderson County
  • Advocate for youth leadership opportunities
  • Advocate for inclusion of youth perspective in local government decision making
