A message from our 2018 Campaign Co-Chairs...

We can truly make a difference in the lives of individuals by acting together. This belief has supported me for the last 16 years while living2018 August 08 United Way Aug 2018 0117 79 in Henderson County and working with some of the most fragile segments of our population. I am grateful to share my belief by now working alongside Scott as a co-chair for this year’s United Way campaign.

You often see the dark side of humanity when looking into the lives of child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault victims. However, you are also privileged to see the resilience that exists within each of us and gain a humbling appreciation for how much the compassion we show matters. My firsthand experience with the faith, love, and trust that people can display under the most difficult of conditions has been nothing short of a blessing. Over and over, I have been humbled by how incredibly generous and engaged our community can be. I sincerely hope that you will all share in this blessing and do your part in spreading that generosity and engagement.

Let’s work together to ensure that all those in Henderson County, regardless of background or circumstance, are overwhelmed with the support and caring that we have to offer. Let’s demonstrate through our actions that we are together in this life and that we are all better human beings when we Live United.

My acting career at Flat Rock Playhouse has allowed me to live in beautiful Henderson County for over 30 years. Although I could move elsewhere, I have chosen to stay here because2018 August 08 United Way Aug 2018 0117 71 I love this community. I feel lucky to live in this beautiful place, but I know there are many folks in our area who are facing hard times. That’s why I am honored to serve as
co-chair for United Way’s campaign this year with my friend, Tanya.

United Way partners with many amazing nonprofit agencies to help children and youth succeed in school, families achieve financial stability, and community residents lead healthier lives and access food, shelter, and other critical services. United Way really does bring people together from all walks of life, and together, we can make a big difference! I’ve done some Shakespeare in my time, and I love this line from The Merchant of Venice: “How far that little candle throws his beams!” I think the Bard got it right. I hope you will join me so we can create positive change and throw more light to all the corners of Henderson County!
