Katy Gash was born in Barbados (a small island in the southern Caribbean Sea) and moved to North Carolina in 2008. Having married Eric Gash - a native of Hendersonville - she quickly became a much-loved member of our community. Katy started coaching soccer, teaching middle school math, and volunteering with several schools and charitable organizations, such as United Way. Today Katy serves as the Girls EMpowered (GEM) Manager for United Way of Henderson County. As program coordinator, Katy is passionate about helping young girls to see the brilliance, promise and inner beauty that resides in each one of them. Prior to her years as a math teacher, Katy held the post of Cultural Officer for Literary Arts in her native Barbados. Her role encompassed the coordination of the Writers in Schools and Education (WISE) project, and the National Independence Festival for Cultural Arts Summer Camps. Katy is a graduate of Florida International University, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, and a Masters degree in International Business. She and Eric have three grown children - Kelan, Jacob and Maya - and one grandchild.
