Making a gift of appreciated securities is a great way you can make a difference in our community.
Donated assets such as stocks and mutual funds may provide you with an income tax deduction based on the fair market value of the gift and eliminate all capital gains taxes. Please consult with your tax advisors for specific tax advice when giving securities.
To donate shares of stock you may electronically transfer through your broker to United Way account 258-07842-1, DTC# 0057 at Edward Jones 828-684-0365.

Are you 70 ½ or older with a traditional IRA? If so, you may be eligible to make a tax-free gift from your IRA called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)! QCDs are always tax-free, regardless of whether or not you itemize deductions on your tax return.
What is an Individual Retirement Account (IRA)? An IRA is an account set up at a financial institution that allows an individual to save for retirement with tax-free growth or on a tax-deferred basis.
What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)? A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA, payable directly to a qualified charity, as described in the QCD provision in the Internal Revenue Code.
Our partnership with FreeWill provides an easy way to make your QCD gift quickly and hassle-free by beginning your forms online. You can also choose to print the forms to complete by hand or transact the gift over the phone with your financial custodian.
