Fern Resources

Grounded Boots Relief:  Grounded Boots Relief provides transportation support for healthcare workers in Henderson County who are unable to safely reach main roadways due to access issues. This service helps ensure essential medical staff can report to work when conditions prevent normal travel. Proof of employment is required and may include a work ID badge, name tag, or other reasonable verification from a hospital, clinic, or healthcare facility. Email: info@groundedbootsrelief.org. Catholic Charities - https://ccdoc.org/ Catholic Charities helps people in need in western North Carolina. You don't have to be Catholic to be served by Catholic Charities. They offer bilingual clinical mental health counseling in English and Spanish virtually on a sliding fee scale, food and essential non-food items like diapers, toiletries, hygiene products, and pet food, disaster case management, immigration legal services, refugee services, and case management.  Hours: 9-5 Mon-Fri. Interfaith Assistance Ministries (IAM) - Location: 310 Freeman Street, Hendersonville, NC 28792, https://www.iam-hc.org/Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 9:00am-4:00pm and Wednesday, Friday 9:00am-12:30pm; Purpose: IAM offers food pantry services including hygiene supplies and clothing for all ages. Please call or visit our website to see if you qualify for their home repair program. Also accepting requests to assist with hurricane recovery through their Critical Repairs Program. Thrive - Location: 218 W Allen St B, Hendersonville, NC 28739, (828) 697-1581, https://thrive4health.org; Purpose: Connect individuals and families experiencing homelessness to permanent housing.

United Methodist Disaster Ministry - ContactWwoll@wnccumc.org, Phone: (828) 558 7898. Hours: Mon- Fri 9-4.  Purpose:  Tree Removal, Temporary Roof Repair (e.g. tarping), Roof Repair, RV / temporary winterization. Also has propane and Kerosene heaters. Disaster Ministry focused on long-term and temporary repairs to homes to make you safe, sanitary and secure after Hurricane Helene.

Domestic Violence Shelter and Support

Helene Recovery Resources 

RenewNC Single-Family Housing Program: North Carolina’s long-term disaster recovery effort, committed to rebuilding impacted communities stronger so they are more resilient to future storms. https://renewnc.org/. Application deadline is January 31, 2026.

The Renew NC Single-Family Housing Program is a centralized housing rehabilitation, reconstruction or replacement program that will prioritize low-to-moderate income families with seniors aged 62 and older, children, and/or disabled household members impacted by Hurricane Helene in the following 29 counties: Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mecklenburg (28214), Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Surry, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, Yadkin and Yancey. This program is a partnership of the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Henderson County Disaster Recovery Partnership

United Way of Henderson County serves as the fiscal sponsor for the Disaster Recovery Partnership (DRC) of Henderson County. The DRP connects more than 50 agencies working collaboratively to address the Helene recovery needs that our community continues to face. Residents who are still have unmet needs as a result of Helene are welcome to complete a Disaster Recovery Assistance request form and a case manager will reach our to help you connect with Helene related resources. FEMA Appeals

If you were affected by Helene, applied for FEMA assistance, and were denied assistance or under awarded, you should appeal! SBP can help you appeal for free. SPB provides free support throughout the appeals process for Home Repair, Personal Property and Moving/Storage appeal needs. A skilled associate will guide you through the process and file the appeal on your behalf. Contact SPB if:

  • You applied for FEMA assistance and received an initial award or response letter.
  • You owned and occupied the home that was damaged at the time of the disaster.

Free Legal Assistance

Pisgah Legal Services - Location: 440 S Church St, Hendersonville, NC 28792, (828)253-0406 or (800) 489-6144, https://www.pisgahlegal.org/; Purpose: Pisgah Legal Services is here to help the people of our mountain region recover and rebuild from Hurricane Helene. They also have a variety of other services. Legal staff can assist with applying for FEMA Aid and Free Assistance Clinics, Tenants/Renters Rights; Disaster Unemployment Benefits; Health Insurance through Healthcare.gov/ACA and Medicaid.
